World Herritage Night Tour
Our regular program closely related to light is the World Herritage Night Tour. This is one of the most exciting guided tours of the Cella Septichora Visitor Center: headlamp walk through the underground labyrinth of the Early Christian cemetery by night. During the tour the visitor can discover the mystical world of the ancient tombs only with a head lamp.
Zsolnay Light Festival
The most spectacular light art attraction at the World Heritage Sites of Pécs is without doubt the Zsolnay Light Festival. The festival's highlighted downtown venues include the UNESCO heritage sites, so thus visitors can have different light experiences from year to year such as a light column hall consisting of light strips reminiscent of antique columns, a visual art composition or an interactive light installation showcasing the shadow in a special light system.
Light painting and Light Workshop
On the occasion of the Night of Museums a creative “light” workshop called Fénybütykölde was opened in the Visitor Center where visitors could create completely unique jewelery and ornaments blinking in different colors with the help of LEDs and batteries. During the evening at the entrance of the Visitor Center a special visual experience welcomed the lovers of light art and light painting.
World Heritage Light Flashmob
A year ago, just on the occasion of the International Day of Light, the World Heritage Pécs organized a Light Flashmob during which we sent all together the light of the UNESCO World Heritage and the Christogram high up with the help of hundreds of tiny lamps. The Light Flashmob was held once again within the framework of the Cultural Heritage Days: after drawing these symbols, the floor plan of the Early Christian Mausoleum was also set up in a spectacular light form.
This year, the virtual celebration of the International Day of Light allows us to emphasize the key message how light science, light-based technologies, light art and culture can enrich what belongs to us all, our common cultural heritage.
